High-Rep-Rate,
Tripled
Nd:Vanadate Laser
|
Here are some
views of the optical train and abbreviated mounting hardware
for a tripled Nd:Vanadate laser designed for an OEM client.
Performance requirements for this laser were rather stringent. It
was expected that the laser was to be operated nearly continuously for
several thousand hours and at a rep rate of 50 kHz or higher, without
need for realignment, and be free from beam drift of greater than
approximately 1/4 of a spot size, and provide a shot-to-shot energy
fluctuation of less than 5%.

The
various components are:
1. Concave high reflector for 1.06 and 0.532
microns, forming one end of the harmonic conversion section.
2. LBO Doubler (beneath temperature-controlled
housing).
3. LBO Tripler (sum-frequency mixing of 1.06
microns and 0.532 microns).
4. Intracavity Brewster prism, separates the
third harmonic from the fundamental.
5. Third harmonic beam pickoff.
6. Focusing lens for the harmonic conversion
section.
7. Diode-pumped shallow-bounce Nd:Vanadate
"active mirror".
8. Crystalline quartz acousto-optic Q-switch.
9. Flat 1.06 micron high reflector.
10. Third harmonic collimating lens.
11. Anamorphic prism pair for beam-tailoring.
12. Laser diode bar.
13. Diode bar collimating and focussing optics.
